Northwestern Mutual’s White & McGowan Financial has donated $25,000 to Walk for the Waiting and has become the Walk’s first-ever presenting sponsor.

Walk for the Waiting is the collaboration of three Arkansas foster care and adoption focused nonprofits: The CALL, Project Zero and Immerse Arkansas. Raising nearly $450,000 since its inception in 2013, the event coordinators hope to bring in $250,000 this year to make sure every child in Arkansas has a family.

Matthew White, who leads Northwestern Mutual’s White & McGowan Financial office in Little Rock, Arkansas, has been a foster dad since 2012. He and his wife Kelly White, who is also the Chair for Walk for the Waiting, plan to adopt their two foster daughters this year.

“I believe every child should have the opportunity to grow up in a loving family. There are 4,000 kids in Arkansas’ foster care system, and I want to do my part to make sure each of them are protected from harm and have a loving home,” said Matthew White. “Kelly and I believe God calls his church in scripture to care for the orphan and to love them unconditionally in the same way he loves us. We want to do all that we can to mobilize the church toward helping in this effort.”

Arkansas data shows that there are over 500 children in Arkansas’ foster care system waiting for an adoptive family. State officials report there is a need for an additional 1,200 foster families statewide. In fact, nearly 250 children in the system will age out this year after not finding a permanent family.

“We are thrilled to have the support of Matt and his business,” said Christie Erwin, Executive Director of Project Zero, one of the beneficiaries of the Walk. “In order to achieve no waiting children, it takes everyone’s help – families, churches, government and businesses all have to work together to make sure we protect our most vulnerable citizens.”

Walk for the Waiting is slated to begin at 9am on May 2nd at War Memorial Stadium. The event is free and those interested can register to become a sponsored walker at www.walkforthewaiting.org. Business sponsorship opportunities are still available. Please email Eric Gilmore at eric@walkforthewaiting.org for more info.

About Walk for the Waiting
There is a crisis going on in our community among our most vulnerable population – abused and neglected children. Nearly 4,000 children are currently in Arkansas’ foster care system, many of whom are waiting for a family. Over 500 children are specifically waiting for an adoptive family. Additionally, over 250 teens age out of the foster care system each year. Walk for the Waiting was started by the united forces of three leading foster care and adoption focused nonprofits – The CALL, Immerse Arkansas and Project Zero with the goal to raise awareness about this crisis and to help provide a family and a future for every waiting child. We are inviting local churches, businesses and your family to help by registering to become a sponsored walker for Walk for the Waiting at War Memorial Stadium on May 2, 2015. www.walkforthewaiting.org
